How we relate to one another and our environment has been central to the roads I’ve walked down throughout my life. As a painter, I most often focus on our relationship to our environment, and what a lovely and varied environment Maine offers.
To me, a painting is like a poem… and I’ve always liked poetry that shines light on the ordinary, so that’s what I want to do with my paintings, to get people to notice things – whether it’s a line of cows on a snowy hill, sunset illuminating the shore, or the complexity of a tidal pool. I work primarily in oil, often with cold wax added. Printmaking and collage are also interests.
Why I Paint Landscapes:
I’m born of leaf litter and stardust.
Mountains raise up and streams flow through me.
Deep inside my bowel are marshes and moss,
My eyes are tidal pools, and
The moon tides pull me outside.
Rooted not so much to Place, but to wildflowers and wild ness,
I paint to earn the earth in my hands,
I paint to go home…to find communion with the wild…To BELONG.
