Fiber Artist, Printmaking
Sandi finds the fiber arts to be compelling and completely absorbing. For here it is the visual exploration of ideas and obsessions using color, shape and texture. The very nature of the materials she works with suggests an experience in tactile imagery and contrasts.
Using her special techniques of blending fibers and mixed media materials, she strives to create one of a kind pieces that delight the eye and crave to be touched. Besides working with wool, she also works with silk fabric to create beautiful hand painted scarves. She has also learned how to create solar plate etchings, a printmaking process using the sun as an integral part of the final process. She prints her work on paper and silk fabric.
Sandi has been a fiber/mixed media artist for over 25 years. She is also a retired art educator and is currently a teaching artist in the state of Maine. She teaches many classes throughout the Northeast and works with many different artist organizations and businesses. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Nazareth College and Alfred University in New York state. Sandi also teaches fiber, art history and drawing classes at Senior College here in Maine.
She lives in Searsport, Maine where she has her studio.
